Collectable, RARE Calfee Design Carbon Dragonfly-Tri Frameset (54cm) • 650c

For your consideration, you are bidding on a pre-owned, extremely rare, collectableCalfee Design Carbon Dragonfly-Tri Triathlon Bicycle Frameset (Men, 54 cm). Includes the original Calfee Carbon Steerer Front Fork (not pictured at this time); manufactured for Calfee Design by Reynolds Composites; S/N 48623 - in Excellent Condition. 650c Wheels are required for this frameset. ConditionThis is a carbon bicycle frameset of approximately 20 - 25 years of age. Although the frameset presents well, there are evident concerns in regards to the gloss clear-coat on this frameset. It is recommended to have a shop specializing in carbon frames or advanced clear-coat applications to perform a new gloss clear coat to restore the original condition. It is also possible from what I have been told to convert this gloss clear-coat as pictured into a more contemporary look with a matte clear-coat option as seen on the newest Calfee Design framesets.
Calfee Design confirmed the 650c wheelset requirement when I inquired on the history of this frameset: The Tri frame was one we made in the late-nineties/early-00's. Because we stopped making them so long ago we do not have a record for the majority o the ones we sold. I can say that they were built around a 650c wheel, most likely with Mavic Open Pro or Velocity. The Tri variation is rather rare because we did not make that many of them, but the clients who purchased them love them.
The geometry is strictly Tri, so drop bars would not work in an attempt to make it a true road bike. Some people have purchased them on the second hand market and tried to turn them into road bikes, which does not work. ... We were popular in the rather small try scene over two decades ago, but those Tri bikes are no more collector's items than functional bikes."I purchased this frameset this past July with the intention of building it up to a gentleman's spec road racer with some nice tid-bits from Campagnolo and so-on.
